Vastu Tips for a Positive and Functional Home

Most Vastu advice online falls into two camps. Either it's a giant list of dos and don'ts with no explanation, or it gets so technical you close the tab halfway through. If you're actually house-hunting right now, you don't need either. You need to know what to check when you're standing in a flat, deciding whether it feels right. Here's what actually matters.

Start with the front door

The main entrance is where most Vastu conversations begin, and there's a reason for that. Homes facing North, East, or North-East are generally considered the strongest picks. Next time you're on a site visit, ask which way the door faces before you even step inside. It takes ten seconds and tells you a lot.

The kitchen has a spot too

South-East is the traditional placement for the kitchen, tied to the fire element. There's a practical side to this as well. Kitchens in that corner tend to catch better morning light and airflow, so cooking there is genuinely more pleasant, not just symbolically correct.

Where you sleep matters

South-West is considered the anchor point of the home, which is why it's the go-to direction for the master bedroom. Families who follow this placement often say it just feels more settled. Whether that's Vastu or good instinct, it's hard to separate.

Don't block the center

Every home has a Brahmasthan, the open core at the center of the layout. Piling furniture, a staircase, or storage into that space is one of the more common mistakes people make without realizing it. Leave it open. Your home will breathe better for it, literally.

North-East is for water and worship

Pooja rooms, overhead tanks, water features — North-East is where these traditionally sit. It's associated with clarity, which is probably why so many homes tuck their prayer space into that corner.

One thing to avoid completely

A toilet in the North-East or dead center of the floor plan is considered one of the worst layout mistakes in Vastu. It's also surprisingly common in badly planned apartments. Check the floor plan for this before anything else.

Light does more than Vastu ever could

Beyond directions and corners, Vastu keeps coming back to one idea: let light and air move through the house. A home that's bright and cross-ventilated just works better, day to day, regardless of what tradition says about it.

Where Infinium comes in

We build Vastu compliance into our floor plans from day one, not as a checklist we run at the end. Door placement, room zones, ventilation, all of it is thought through before the first brick goes up.
